Week 9

Strict Rules of Engagement Slow Troops Advance

The Troops in Afghanistan are now facing a new challenge.  They have new rules of engagement that limit who they can engage.  If someone is shooting at soldier and then puts down his gun and runs, or troops are not allowed to engage or arrest that person.  There is also no longer any quick air support.  If air support is called it can take up to an hour to have that support actually be effective.  This is being done to protect and gain support from the civilians in Afghanistan.

I think that these rules are stupid.  They say this is to protect Agahn civilians, but what about our own troops. They are now going to be in a more dangerous situation than before.  The rule of no close air support is going to cost American troops their lives.  They only call on close air support if they need it and now if it wont come quickly, the result will be more American tragedies.
